The fate and history of Cefalu, the ancient Kephalodion, are linked to the privileged position it occupies; a magic promontory, located at the center of the northern coast of Sicily, which lies on the Tyrrhenian Sea, as if wanting to dominate.
Many and various are the testimonies of men and dominations that have followed over time. Although much of the archaeological excavations reveal the presence of life in prehistoric times, many other elements show the importance that the city has played in the Hellenistic period, when Cefalu was a must among the colonies of Magna Grecia. The urban center reaches its peak in Norman times, when King Roger II ordered the construction of the Duomo, known to many for the iconography mosaic of Christ Pantocrator.
